Across New South Wales, local councils, contractors and utility providers continue delivering the infrastructure projects that help communities grow and function effectively.

Road upgrades, footpath renewals, drainage improvements, utility installations, public events and community facility upgrades all require careful planning to ensure public safety while work is underway.

One of the most important elements of successful project delivery is traffic management.

One organisation helping support these projects is Southern Cross Pacific, a Supply Nation certified Indigenous-owned traffic management provider delivering services to councils, contractors and infrastructure teams throughout New South Wales.

As an appointed provider under Local Government Procurement Contract T1.13-3, Southern Cross Pacific provides traffic control, traffic management planning and equipment hire services that help projects progress safely while maintaining access for residents, businesses, workers and visitors.

This appointment provides councils and contractors with a contract-ready pathway to engage experienced traffic management professionals while supporting Indigenous procurement objectives through a Supply Nation-certified Indigenous-owned business.

Traffic management plays a critical role in protecting workers, road users, pedestrians and cyclists while maintaining access to businesses, homes and community facilities. Effective planning helps projects proceed safely while minimising disruption to surrounding communities.

Michael Long, prominent Indigenous figure in AFL, played for Essendon Football Club between 1989 and 2001.

Standing tall against racial abuse throughout his football career, on November 21st 2004 Michael Long walked over 650 kilometres from his home in the suburbs of Melbourne, all the way to Parliament House in Canberra to meet the then Prime Minister John Howard, to voice his concern about racial abuse in sports. He was accompanied by both Indigenous and non-Indigenous supporters on the walk to Canberra.

Michael Long is one of the pioneering forces behind the racial abuse code which was adopted by AFL in the 1990’s. Michael has continued this struggle against inequality to this day, with a walk having occurred each year since his original journey in 2004.

Southern Cross Pacific is a proud sponsor of The Long Walk 2017. We are committed to providing nationally recognised training and creating employment opportunities for Indigenous people throughout Australia, celebrating Michael Long’s monumental journey and promoting the story of The Long Walk.
